SPIROS COAT HANGER
Design: Vico Magistretti, 1987–2021. "Simplicity is the most complex achievement in the world," said Vico Magistretti. His virtuosity with purified design is evident in his first creation for Acerbis: the Spiros coat hanger. Here he used a change of perspective to transform an everyday object — the broomstick — into an object of captivating essentialism. Spiral-shaped wooden pegs, echoing the shape of broomstick bristles, are fitted onto a central ash-wood post, in a free-standing version on a metal base, or a wall-mounted version. The piece won the Forum Design 87 Award, an Honourable Mention at the ID Annual Design Review in New York in 1988, and entered the Permanent Design Collection at the Southwest Museum of Science and Technology in Dallas. Solid ash wood, open-pore stained; metal base in a micaceous grey finish.
